Cupcakes, the iPhone of dessert...

Today was Laura's birthday. Last night I asked Ben what he was going to make her for her birthday and he said he wanted to make cake. So this morning we woke up, went to the store, got some cupcake makin stuff and baked some cupcakes for Laura's birthday breakfast. Ben was way too excited about it... and while he was putting the sprinkles on he said "I can't wait to give these to Laura, and she's going to smile and have cupcakes shining in her face!"

Anyway here's the finished yummy product. The recipe is from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World and they were super.

Little bitty sweater

Yay, I finished something! I love this sweater... I didn't do such a hot job on the sleeves, but I still think its pretty cute. Also I love love love this yarn! It's Jo Sharp Alpaca Kid Lustre in Piccolo (orange) and Province (blue). It is super soft. I had to get it from the Yarn Garden, which was a tiny bit sad because I'm a huge fan of Twisted. But the day Laura and I went to have our little knitting (and crocheting) club, Twisted was closed. It was very sad... and then we had to bike to Yarn Garden to get our knitting fix, which is far away and not quite as awesome. That reminds me, I miss Twisted. I need to get in there and get some new yarn!!!
Anyway the pattern was supposed to be a stripey sweater, but I liked it better solid. And I think I might make the hat and pants that go with it.

A hundred of tomatoes!!!

This summer Ben and I planted a bunch of random plants. I think it was fava beans, tomatoes, kale, swiss chard, mustard greens, carrots, and spinach. Tragically, the spinach died at the beginning of the summer and the mustard greens never got past sprouts. Ben claims this was because Jake stepped on them at the graduation party. Today some guys came over and trimmed all the bushes and pulled out all the weeds in our backyard. Apparently they didn't realize that the carrots, kale, and swiss chard were actually not weeds, because when we went out this afternoon they were gone. Actually I suppose the carrots are still under the dirt somewhere, but the tops are gone so I'd have to dig them out. The fava beans did really great though, and earlier this summer I made this awesome fava bean crostini thing out of them. It was really good! I'd never even had fava beans before but Ben grew them in his garden at school and talks about them all the time, so I thought we'd plant some. The growingest thing we've had though is the tomatoes!!! I only planted one tomato plant, an heirloom... what was it... oh yeah brandywine. I planted them in the same place our landlords said they put tomatoes last year. Apparently some tomatoes must have fallen off and rotted over there or something, because all of a sudden one day we had like 10 tomato plants growing. We have some romas, and some little yellow pear shaped ones, and some cherry tomatoes, and the brandywine tomatoes. A couple days ago I told Ben to go see if any of them were red yet, and he came running in and said "MOM!! Come outside you gotta see this! There are a hundred of tomatoes!!!"
I didn't bother putting any little cages or anything around all the tomatoes. The one plant that I planted I tied to the fence, but the rest I just let go crazy. So we have a crazy tomato jungle, with a hundred of tomatoes. Today we picked the first ripe ones (okay, the roma wasn't actually ripe but Ben picked it anyway...) and I took some pictures of Ben being very excited about his tomatoes.

82 more days till baby-day. I think the first 2/3 have gone by really fast, but now I just want to play with him!!! We bought a bunch of baby stuff this week, which made me more excited. We got him the CUTEST car seat ever. And some clothes, a baby bjorn, the mattress, some blankets, a diaper bag, changing table cover and a hat.

Jason is in NYC this week, and then in Vegas after that. Yeah he has a very sad life.... After he gets back I think we're going to spend a weekend getting all the stuff painted. I'm excited for that, setting stuff up is super fun!!!

Stripey Sweater.

I really really love this sweater. It's the first thing I knitted for futurebaby after we found out he was a boy. It still needs some buttons on the opening at the back, but it's pretty much done.
