Baby # 3 and back to crafting!

Well, it's been a looooong time since I did anything crafty (or blogged!) but now that it's facebook official, I'll make it blog official too! We're having another baby! #3 should be showing up in early June. I'm 11 weeks now, and today we had the first midwife appointment and heard the heartbeat. We're having another homebirth, and although our midwife from last time is on sabbatical we're using the same practice and I really like them.

So about the crafting!

I decided I wanted to do cloth diapers this time, and got really into making them this weekend. It's been pretty fun. Portland now does mandatory composting, which means trash is only picked up once every two weeks (just one can). Our compost bin thing is about twice as big as the trash bucket and gets picked up once a week with the recycling. It's actually pretty amazing that you have very little garbage left after compost and recycling! We didn't realize that so much of our trash was just old food. But disposable diapers would probably ruin our ability to not go over on garbage and cost a bunch more.

Anyway here's some pics of the latest craft. My mom is coming up for Thanksgiving and gets here Saturday. She's bringing a bunch of fabric and supplies and we'll be making a bunch more! And yes, I made these all in a Wednesday night + a weekend.

The real week 2.

Week 2 of the big fancy diet...

I'm down 8 pounds so far. I feel like I want it to be more miraculous, but I suppose realistically 8 pounds in 2 weeks is not too shabby. I totally forgot to take any food pictures this week, too. But it involved lots and lots of eggs, beans, spinach, and meat.
But cheat day! Cheat day is my favorite. We started off with some Slappycakes, which was yummy. Peanut butter and buttermilk pancakes, with chocolate chips, blueberries, bacon and lemon curd. Not all at once.

Slappycakes is totally fun - you buy a bottle of batter, make it at your table and sprinkle in the toppings. It was delicious.



We didn't really eat lunch, just snacked and I had some Samoas and cheese and chips.

We finished up with pizza at Apizza Scholls w/ Laura and Jake and Amelia. It was delicious. And then we played a new game called Small World. Fun times.



This week I'm going to try and do a better job of documenting the 4hb stuff we eat - since the book claims diets work better if you document it and are accountable. Tonight we had rotisserie chicken, kale with beans, and a salad. Tomorrow is taco soup.

Week 2 (Actually week 1. I'm good at counting.)

So, we survived a week of the 4hb. It was not terrible, but by the end of the week we realized we needed to be a little more careful about reading labels and when we eat out. We had thai food one night, and I'm pretty sure the curry was full of sugar. It was yummy though. We also had green papaya salad, which I didn't really think about because it tastes like a vegetable but oh right, papaya is a fruit....

Anyway I'm a little tired of having beans for breakfast. The rest of the day is fine, but beans in my eggs every morning really isn't that exciting. Cannelini beans are the best though, you don't notice them quite as much.

We made some really good dinners all week though! First was that chicken fried fakerice, then these lettuce wraps/tacos (my favorite)



Wednesday nights Jason works late so I wasn't in the mood for cooking. I had chicken (chicken, olive oil, salt and pepper) and roasted veggies from whole foods' deli, and some tj's premade curried chickpeas thing.



I think Thursday was just steak and veggies, nothing exciting. Friday we had thai food - green curry w/ beef and no rice, tom kha soup with chicken, and green papaya salad.

And then it was cheat day!! We started off with some Pine State Biscuits. I had to have the McIsley. It's a delicious biscuit, fried chicken, pickles, honey, and mustard. So delicious. Also, hash browns.

I had King Cake for lunch. Yum. We went to my friend Troy's wedding and had lots of wine, and they had a little cheese plate buffet so I got to eat plenty of blue cheese and brie. Mmm.

Sunday we were back on the diet and had the eggs, veggies, sausage, bean thing for breakfast. Dinner was chili, made by Jason, and it was delicious :) We also had a mix of kale/collard/chard sauteed with shallots and garlic. Yum.

I lost five pounds last week, but I think Jason said he lost either a couple pounds or nothing. He did eat a bunch of trader joes chili for lunches though, which had sneaky starch and sugar in it I think. So we're going to be a little more careful about that this week, and see how it goes.

Oh and this was breakfast today - I wanted it to be like the veggie hash at Bakery Bar. It's diced onions, mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, radish, and celery, with sausage and lentils, topped with two eggs over medium.

Yum.

Four hour body.

Today we started the the four hour body diet.

Basically, it's five rules.
1. No white carbohydrates, or anything that can be white (i.e. brown rice, ww bread)
2. Eat the same few meals over and over again
3. Don't drink calories (except red wine :)
4. Don't eat fruit
5. Once a week "go nuts"

There's more to it, obviously but that's basically it. Lots of beans and eggs and meat and veggies.
Some friends of ours are doing it and think it's the best thing ever - my mom is even doing it and said she lost 8 pounds in 6 days.

Anyway I'm going to blog about it since I never blog anymore.

Here's what I ate for breakfast:
2 scrambled eggs, 3 slices of turkey bacon, a couple handfuls of spinach, and about 1/2 cup of cannelini beans, all scrambled up together with a little salt and pepper.

coffee with cinnamon in it
lots of water (one .5 liter bottle and 2 pints so far)

lunch, because I'm lazy:
some baby carrots
trader joe's punjab eggplant (eggplant, tomatoes, onions, sunflower oil, pumpkin, garlic, salt, coriander, chili, cumin, turmeric, ginger, cloves) with cannelini beans thrown in

dinner is going to be chicken fried faux-rice.
- 1 med head White Cauliflower
- 1 large boneless skinless chicken breast
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 tsp olive or favorite oil
- 2 Tbls Soy Sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 1 Tbls Fresh Grated Ginger
- 1 Green Onion chopped including the green
- 5 spice
- 1 cup water

except I'll probably double that and I'm adding some chopped cabbage and other veggies.

I used three chicken breasts, three eggs, and added celery, carrots, shallots, cilantro, crimini mushrooms, a ton of garlic, and a little fish sauce. it was awesome!

Soccer Ben!

Ben loved Spring Soccer so we signed him up for Fall soccer, too. Fall soccer is less laid back and more "real" and he's doing great! He had his first game on Saturday and he was awesome. He's into it and plays hard, stole the ball a few times, and even made a goal :)
